Nothing at all Suspicious (Really)

With the dragon-thrall dispatched and the Formor repulsed, the supernatural scene has become almost quiet. Even the Gloucester Werewolves aren’t bothering people much.

In the Mortal world, the fall of Cardoze, has disrupted the local economic scene. Major properties are in flux, with Cardoze investments dumping most of its properties on the way to bankruptcy, and speculators picking up choice pieces. A healthcare group from France has taken over management of the Riverside hospital chain and several other facilities. A German manufacturing firm has opened in Matthews. The Cardoze towers stand empty.

It’s almost midsummer, and the closest thing to news is that the normally reclusive Summer Court representative O’Caercarras is inviting people (and things) to a midnight fete at his greenhouse.

Something Wicked This Way Comes

Three months after the events of “Bloody Bones”, tensions begin to rise between the Fae agencies in the area. To those on the outside, the events seem like nothing more than the normal squabbling between the Summer and Winter Courts, but what started as harmless pranks quickly escalates into near deadly attacks.

To make matters worse, someone is sabotaging the political moves of the White Court vampires in the area, subtly turning them against each other, while a businessman named Anthony Cardoze not only manages to establish a new area of Accorded Neutral Ground in Vriginia Beach but begins to encroach on the holdings of the White Court.

Drawn back into the fray, Jake Ryan and Darian Marshall team up with a new group of investigators to try and untangle this web of deceit before it tears the area apart.

Revealing the attacks on the Fae courts to be a plot by the mysterious Fomor, intended to weaken the Fae by setting them against each other, the PCs manage to thwart a Fomor plot to erect a region-wide ward set to weaken anyone not sworn to the Fomor cause. The plan was to use captured ghosts from the various Civil War battlefields around the area to fuel an ancient thaumaturgical rite; the PCs were able to destroy the Fomor cell before the rite could be enacted, but they found no sign of the trapped ghosts.

Meanwhile, some research by a few of the PCs turned out some stunning information: Cardoze was being backed by none other than a True Dragon explaining his sudden rise to wealth and power and his ability to counter the machinations of the White Court. Realizing that the Fomor had been given a dummy ritual and this had been a ruse by Cardoze, the PCs rush to confront the Dragon Thrall. Thanks to their quick reactions they catch Cardoze before he has a chance to prepare for confrontation and handily take him out.

The PCs destroy the ghost traps and any evidence of the ritual they can hoping that this is the last they see of any such plot. Still, there is no sign that the Dragon Dharkkogax has given up his designs on the area, and his presence spells trouble for Hampton Roads in the future…

Bloody Bones
Something's out there. Something... Hungry...

(This story begins two weeks after the events of the book Changes.)

The Seven Cities area had existed for years in a tense but stable balance of power. The White Court held most of the territory south of the Coleman Bridge, the Red Court holding Gloucester to the north. A pack of werewolves wandered the countryside in Mathews and Middlesex, while the White Council guarded what territory south of the bridge that wasn’t vamp-held and minor talents outside their territories were left mostly to their own devices.

When the Red Court abruptly vanished, everything was thrown into disarray. Suddenly there was no strong power holding Gloucester, and everything around began to rush in. First on the scene were the werewolves, their aggressive leader trying to bully all the minor talents into accepting their rule or leaving the area. The White Court began sinking their claws into all the property and political influences that were suddenly left without anyone to hold them. The White Council, already weakened by the war with the Red Court and reeling from this sudden development, couldn’t do much more than send a young Warden straight from the front lines to keep order as best he could.

When the homeless of the area start disappearing without a trace at a rate that threatens to draw the attention of mortal authorities, an unlikely group of locals comes together to solve the mystery. When the bodies of the missing people are found in the woods along the Colonial Parkway- the bodies stripped of most flesh and gnawed upon as if by large animals then concealed in shallow graves- rumors of a grisly repeat of the Parkway Killer resurface in the locality. Using connections within the news and local police the heroes cover up the incident as a case of an illegal fight club that resulted in fatalities, where the bodies were disposed of by feeding them to fighting dogs and then hidden away.

The truth of the matter was that the bodies were the victims of a necromancer’s foul experiments, the remains given to his ghoul lackeys for disposal. After many a dangerous encounter with the ghouls, the heroes finally track the necromancer to his lair and confront him, destroying the ghouls and driving the necromancer into the Never Never. This crisis averted for now, the heroes went home to lick their wounds and rest until something else threatened the peace in their home.
